CFD Modeling of Adsorption Rate Prediction for Granular Activated Carbon Packed Bed

چکیده

For predicting the adsorption performance of filters, rate parameters, including mass transfer capacity coefficient and equilibrium concentration are required. Estimating these parameters involve a series experiments on concentrations amounts adsorbent, which is expensive requires sufficient time for tests. This study aims to estimate more efficiently using computational fluid dynamics (CFD); moreover, it predicts differently shaped made same material, predicted parameters. A filtration test performed single column (the granular activated carbon packed bed), following which, calculated by fitting CFD results experimental results, particularly constant, determines concentration. The proposed modeling method enables prediction filter even in solutions with as low 100 μg/L or less. indicates that aids predictions filters simple (a water flow test) column.

Continuous adsorption and biotransformation of micropollutants by granular activated carbon-bound laccase in a packed-bed enzyme reactor.

Laccase was immobilized on granular activated carbon (GAC) and the resulting GAC-bound laccase was used to degrade four micropollutants in a packed-bed column. Compared to the free enzyme, the immobilized laccase showed high residual activities over a broad range of pH and temperature. The GAC-bound laccase efficiently removed four micropollutants, namely, sulfamethoxazole, carbamazepine, diclo...

Modeling and Simulation for Dynamics of Packed Bed Adsorption

Understanding the dynamics of fixed-bed adsorption columns for modeling is a demanding task due to the strong nonlinearities in the equilibrium isotherms, interference effects of competition of solutes for adsorbent sites, mass transfer resistances between fluid phase and solid phase, and fluid-dynamic dispersion phenomena. The interplay of these effects produces steep concentration fronts, whi...

Modeling studies for adsorption of phenol and co-pollutants onto granular activated carbon prepared from olive oil industrial waste

Granular activated carbon (OSAC) which was derived from olive oil industrial solid waste was chemically activated with different concentrations of phosphoric acid. OSAC-materials were evaluated for their ability to remove phenol from aqueous solution in a batch technique. Adsorption isotherms were determined and modeled with five linear Langmuir forms, namely the Freundlich, Elovich, Temkin, Ki...
